About Me

My name is Ana Canela Robles and I am a fully qualified, traditional acupuncturist working from clinics in Rottingdean, East Horsley and Westcott.

I am a graduate from The Acupuncture Academy in Leamington, where I was awarded a Distinction in their Professional Licentiate in Acupuncture. This is a three year degree qualification accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board.

I was also Commended for my clinical skills.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a branch of traditional medicine that has been practised in China and the far east for thousands of years. It has been developed, tested, researched and refined over this time into a treatment option accessed by increasing numbers of patients in the West. Without the benefit of modern scientific equipment, the first acupuncturists discovered many now familiar aspects of biomedical science.

Cupping
Cupping is a form of complementary medicine in which cups are placed on the skin to create suction. Cupping is thought to increase blood flow and remove toxins from the body. I may use it for acute conditions, such as a cough or cold. I may also use it for pain conditions, such as a sports injury.

Moxibustion-icon
Moxibustion
For conditions which, in Chinese medicine terms, are energetically cold, I may use the ancient technique of moxibustion as a part of your treatment. Moxa involves warming an acupuncture point with a dried mugwort herb (Artemisia vulgaris). The heat from the burning moxa stimulates the flow of qi (pronounced “chi”), or energy, through the body, which is believed to promote healing and wellness.

Gua sha
Gua sha has been used in Asia for centuries. Gua means ‘to rub’ and ‘sha’ is a term that describes the blood congestion in surface tissue in areas where the patient may experience stiffness and pain; sha is also the term for the little red dots that are raised from applying gua sha (Nielsen 2012).
