Acupressure

Acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) technique that involves applying pressure to specific points on the body. These points are known as acupressure points or acupoints. Acupressure is based on the belief that there are energy pathways (meridians) in the body, and that blockages in these pathways can cause pain and other health problems. By applying pressure to acupoints, acupressure can help to unblock these pathways and restore the flow of energy.

Acupressure can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrom
  • Tennis elbow
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Stress

Acupressure can be done by a qualified acupressure practitioner or by yourself. If you are doing acupressure yourself, it is important to learn the correct acupressure points for the condition you are treating. You can find information about acupressure points in books, online, or from a qualified acupressure practitioner.

To do acupressure, use your fingers or thumbs to apply firm pressure to the acupoint for 3-5 minutes. You should feel a dull ache or tingling sensation at the acupoint. If you do not feel any sensation, you may not be pressing hard enough.
